Guys, pernah dengar kalau kucing selalu punya cara agar kembali pulang?
Iya, kucing termasuk hewan mengejutkan untuk hal ini. Meski diakui tidak dapat diajari berbagai hal seperti anjing, untuk hal yang satu ini nggak ada yang menandingi.
Banyak orang yang nggak suka kucing dan membuangnya membuktikan! Kucing sudah dibuang sejauh mungkin, tetap bisa kembali.
Yang paling terkenal adalah kisah kucing Keluarga Hicks di Australia, pada tahun 1978. Kucing peliharaan mereka tertinggal saat liburan. Dan, dalam waktu 12 bulan kucing kembali ke rumah mereka setelah menempuh jarak 1.096 km menjelajah daratan gersang. Hebat dan luar biasa banget ya perjuangannya untuk kembali?
Hmm… Bagaimana kucing bisa demikian?
Kucing Mengingat Makanan dan Tempat Tinggal
Kucing memang tidak secerdas anjing atau binatang lain.
Tapi, mereka punya ingatan yang bagus tentang hal yang berhubungan dengan kehidupan mereka. Khususnya ingatan tentang tempat tinggal dan makanan.
Ih, kesannya egois banget ya hewan satu ini! Manusia juga demikian lho! Kebanyakan ingat dan fokus pada segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan diri sendiri. Itu suatu hal yang alamiah.
Kucing Punya Daya Ingat atau Memory Khusus
Menurut penelitian Mathijs Van Der Meen, kucing punya empat hal yang membuatnya mudah mencari jalan pulang ke rumah. Yang pertama adalah memory.
Memori ini memang berbeda-beda pada tiap hewan. Khusus untuk kucing, mereka dapat dengan mudah mengingat semua jalan yang dilalui dan di mana saja posisinya.
Misalnya, kamu membawa kucing jalan-jalan ke taman dekat rumah. Kucing akan mengingat di mana mereka harus berbelok dan harus melewati bangunan apa saja di tempat yang persis ketika pertama kali lewat.
Kucing Mempunyai Kemampuan Landmark
Landmark merupakan kemampuan dalam menentukan arah. Ini kemampuan kucing kedua menurut Manthijs. Secara sederhana berarti kanan dan kiri, tapi kalau dalam arti luas berarti arah mata angin. Bisa juga menentukan mana arah daratan dan lautan.
Kemampuan landmark yang dimiliki kucing berkaitan dengan sensitivitasnya terhadap magnet bumi. Dengan cara ini kucing dapat menentukan arah lautan. Magnet bumi membuat mereka dapat mencari jalan pulang agar tidak salah jalan.
Kucing Mempunyai Kemampuan Navigasi Takson
Selain kemampuan merasakan arah lautan karena sentivitas kucing terhadap magnet bumi, kucing juga punya kemampuan navigasi takson menurut Manthijs. Kemampuan merasakan dan menentukan arah berdasarkan lingkungan sekitarnya. Lebih tepatnya, dengan merasakan hewan lain yang ada di sekitarnya.
Kucing Mempunyai Kemampuan Mental Map
Kalau liat semua kemampuan kucing sepertinya mereka ngagk bisa salah jalan ya? Pasti bisa menemukan arah pulang.
Ternyata nggak selalu begitu guys. Kucing bisa salah jalan.
Kemampuan landmark yang dibantu kesensitifannya terhadap magnet bumu bisa hilang kalau di sekitarnya ada magnet buatan dengan kekuatan besar, misalnya.
Kucing juga tetap hewan guys! Meraka bisa tergoda dengan bau makanan dari arah yang berbeda!
Terus, apa yang terjadi kalau kucing salah jalan?
Mereka nggak menyerah lho! Ini yang dimaksud mental maps. Mereka siap memulai lagi dari awal pencarian jalan pulang.
So guys, nggak perlu khawatir kucing kamu hilang dan nggak pulang dong!
Selama sebelumnya kamu sudah perlakukan dengan baik dan makanan yang cukup, mereka akan kembali. Apalagi jenis-jenis kucing tertentu dikenal cukup loyal terhadap tuannya.
